Exclusive to Ambit, a limited edition signed print
Inspired by J.G. Ballard’s years as Ambit’s fiction editor we are delighted to offer this rare, exclusive signed & numbered luscious giclee print, limited to 66 by Stanley Donwood, the artist and printmaker best known for his work with Radiohead.
Salaryman is created for us exclusively by the collectible Stanley Donwood who explains: “It’s a very appropriate series for Ambit, as I was originally working on this artwork in, I think, 2006-07.
Somehow I had the chance to perhaps meet JG Ballard but I was too intimidated to follow it up. And then, of course, he died.
It’s one of my many regrets, I’m afraid. I should have just jumped at the chance! The pictures were begun in a derelict stately home called Tottenham House, near Marlborough in Wiltshire, then continued at a now-gone recording studio in Primrose Hill, then etched on to copper plates and printed in Cambridge. Digitally colourised here in Brighton using screengrabs from 3D computer-simulated environments made in Oxford. Quite a journey.”
Art editor, Olivia Bax on Donwood: “Like a good Ballard prose, Donwood’s print is curious, dystopian and detached. Like a good issue of Ambit, the print is layered, contemporary and eye-popping. What a fabulous opportunity to own a work from such a prominent and original artist.”
